Drainage solution for new 100,000 sqft hub
The biggest and most successful retailer in the western world, Amazon is famed for its large selection of product lines as well as its exceptional customer service.
In order to meet increasing customer demand, a new purpose-built distribution facility was built in Exeter to expand the area that Amazon covers.
This colossal 100,000 sqft development required a smart civil engineering drainage solution to service the loading areas, car parks and access roads predominantly used by the high volume of heavy goods vehicles each day.
The chosen solution would need to be strong and durable to support very heavy loads of up to 600kN. It was also important that the customer had easy access to a number of drainage locations around the site for maintenance and inspection.
The Eccles’ consultation team worked with the builder’s merchant to identify the technical challenges that this project entailed
Working with the chosen builder’s merchant, we recommended our popular DU44A, DU125, DU022, DU111 and DU130 products (loading categories from B125 (Group 2) to E600 (Group 5) as they fulfilled all the technical specifications of the job as well as being the most competitively priced with the shortest lead times.
Made from strong ductile iron that can withstand heavy loads, in addition all our product range now has our SmartGrip TechnologyTM anti-slip tread pattern as standard, fully BSI certified to EN124-2:2015 safety certification, and designed to provide a high PSRV skid resistance value >70, as well as a three point suspension for non-rock stability.
They provide safe, secure drainage in high traffic areas around the new warehouse, supporting regular use from pedestrians, cars and lorries, as well as catering for the large heavy wheel transportation vehicles that make up the core of Amazon’s distribution fleet.
The high quality access covers were installed quickly and efficiently by a trusted sub-contractor with no issues or delays – the client was delighted with the outcome.
