ECCLES AQUADECK DIVISION APPOINTED TO DELIVER ENGINEERED DRAINAGE SOLUTION FOR THE NARROW WATER BRIDGE PROJECT IN IRELAND
Eccles are proud to announce its appointment by main contractor BAM as the supplier of a bespoke AQUADECK Bridge Drainage system for the new Narrow Water Bridge – A major new infrastructure project linking County Down and County Louth.
The award to our AQUADECK division follows a detailed period of design engagement with BAM and the projects consulting Engineers Roughan & O’Donovan, during which our AQUADECK team conducted a full technical review of the proposed drainage design.
BAM invited us to assess not just costs but hydraulic performance, installation considerations and sequencing as well as long term maintenance of the original specification.
Our AQUADECK team liaised with the site team on a regular basis through multiple on-line design meetings as we developed our proposal.
We presented an optimised solution based on our AQUADECK system but a modified version and design tailored specific to the Narrow Water Bridge deck geometry, crossfalls and surface water management criteria.

Key enhancements included:
Improved Hydraulic Efficiency and water collection across the deck via bespoke AQUADECK Kerb Drainage units, profiled to match the 2.5% crossfall of the carriageway
Compatibility – Bespoke units designed to work with the thin combined waterproofing and surface layer which will be utilised on the deck
Installation Optimisation – As well as profiled AQUADECK units we proposed a Twin Channel system which will be installed behind the kerb units. This single unit will double up as a surface water carrier for the kerb inlets, a separate cavity with a grating system above will collect water from the pedestrianised area behind the carriageway.
Chris Rothery – AQUADECK Project Director said:
“The Narrow Water Bridge project required a tailored drainage solution approach due to its geometry and a thin surfacing/waterproofing material on the deck itself. Working with the BAM site team enabled us to look at the original design which we felt that with a few modifications and our ability to design and manufacture special bespoke systems we could make improvements to the hydraulic performance of the drainage system.”
“We are extremely proud that our technical input and engineered solution was met so favourably with the BAM team, they have been a pleasure to work with, keen to look at our proposals and in no small way their enthusiasm contributed to the final design.”
“It is always rewarding when our technical input and engineered solution are recognised and ultimately approved as is the case here through the award of this very special project.”
William Diver Construction Director for BAM Civil added:
“The Narrow Water Bridge is a landmark project which is the flagship of the Shared Island Fund. This technically demanding structure has demanded a multi-national class leading supply chain on all fronts. We are proud to partner with Aquadeck to bring this innovative deck drainage solution for Narrow Water Bridge to life. From our initial enquiries the Aquadeck team have been collaborative and have driven technically innovative solutions. We look forward to delivering the Aquadeck drainage system later in the year.”

As construction progresses our AQUADECK team will continue to support BAM through the manufacturing, trialling and ultimate delivery of the drainage system to the structure in 2026. This includes providing full technical assistance on and off site to ensure a smooth and efficient installation
This project reinforces AQUADECKs position as a specialist provider of engineered drainage solutions for complex Bridge and infrastructure projects.
