The impressive A40 structure from our bridge project on the same junction
We were recently approached by Kier/MJ Church who had an immediate requirement for bridge drainage units on their project along the M5 Golden Valley Interchange.
Golden Valley Interchange is easily recognised as you approach J11 on the M5; a large structure towers over the motorway carrying the A40 over the motorway, supported by large V shaped steel box sections which support the main deck on the impressive A40 bridge.
Our deck was the next bridge down the A40/M5 section, overlooking the impressive A40 structure.
Approximately 150 metres of AquaDeck bridge drainage units were required on this refurbishment, including Expansion Joints at both abutments.
The Eccles team checked the hydraulic data for the scheme and confirmed that our 300mm wide AquaDeck system would fall within the required specification.
It was a trip back in time for Chris Rothery, our Aquadeck Project Director, as he had supplied kerb drainage to the A40 main bridge during a refurbishment over 20 years ago. As Chris stated:
‘It’s amazing how this industry can take you full circle, who would’ve thought I’d be involved in this same project all these many years later!’
Eccles had the AquaDeck units in stock so we were able to deliver in a matter of days to the site.
