Drainage solution for new state-of-the-art warehouse facility
The DP World London Gateway port is the most advanced deep-water container terminal and distribution park in the UK, welcoming the world’s largest cargo ships from over 50 countries across the globe.
With plans to transform one of the vacant offshore sites (formerly a 1.78ha oil refinery) into a new 7,218sqm state-of-the-art warehouse facility, a major consideration for this project was the need to establish high quality, cost-effective drainage and effluent treatment works.
The new warehouse development would be accessed by a variety of light and heavy traffic, including pedestrians, cars, lorries and heavy wheeled vehicles, and so the proposed drainage solution would need to be strong and durable to support loads of up to 600kN (60 tons).
Another key requirement that was specified was the need for fast, easy access into the drainage system, so that the quality of the wastewater could be quickly assessed, and the transportation pipes inspected conveniently.

Working alongside one of our trusted civil engineering partners, we specified DU120 (part of the Eccles Group 4 D400 range), and DU111 (part of the Eccles Group 5 E600 range) access covers.
Made from strong ductile iron capable of withstanding very heavy wheel loads (which are required within a dock area), these popular manhole covers and gratings feature our unique SmartGrip TechnologyTM, and our DU120 product features an anti-theft captive hinge, indexed covers and three-point suspension for increased stability.
In addition, the products have Kitemark certification (BSI EN124:2:015) for proven safety and quality standardisation.

Being competitively priced and able to fulfil all specified technical requirements, both the DU120 and DU111 products proved very popular with the client.
Even with short lead times, the units were supplied quickly and installed ahead of time by a trusted sub-contractor.
Another project well supported by Eccles!
