AquaDeck Project goes like clockwork along the M4
Sometimes a project just comes together and this was certainly the case with the M4 River Taff project we recently worked on with Alun Griffiths.
Eccles were first approached by the project designers Atkins at their Swansea office to take a look at Bridge drainage requirements on two structures on the M4.
One spanned the River Taff whilst the other spanned the railway under the motorway.
The decks were almost identical and we had the usual challenges of matching our AquaDeck units with the hydraulic run off for both decks.
Expansion joints were present and had to be crossed with our AquaDeck units.
In the end over 800 AquaDeck 300mm wide splay units were installed.
Our early design work with Atkins meant that when Alun Griffiths mobilised to start the project, the kerb drainage system was already designed with stocks ready to go – so we were confident there would be no delays to the project.
Positive feedback from the site is always our goal so we were really pleased when we received the following comments from the site team:
Mike Barnes, Griffiths Site Agent said:
“Eccles UK Foundries Ltd was great to work with, very knowledgeable and helpful in the design process and more than happy to assist with the delivering of the AquaDeck system element of works. Highly recommended.”
Leighton Rees, Griffiths Project Manager, added:
“I can only thank you for what you have done for us on this scheme so far, you’ve grabbed it and really made it happen – much appreciated!”
AquaDeck is the new Combined Kerb Drainage System from Eccles. Made from high strength ductile iron it has been designed for use on bridges and elevated highways or where construction depths are limited.
