Eccles is delighted to have secured the order to supply its AquaDeck combined kerb drainage system on the new River Witham Viaduct.
The bridge, part of the Grantham Relief Road, is some 400 metres in length and will require installation of over 1,400 AquaDeck units in a combination of 300mm – 450mm and 600mm wide formats.
The 600mm wide units will be the largest AquaDeck units installed on any bridge in the UK!
Chris Rothery, AquaDeck Project Director, said:
“Once again we are thoroughly delighted to have secured another high profile project for our Aquadeck system.
“We’ve been in discussions for over a year with the contractor Galliford Try and their designers WSP, who approached us back in 2022 to look at the drainage requirement for this wonderful new viaduct.
“The flows on this deck are going to be quite high, given the large catchment areas. To reduce costs but also provide the best drainage solution for this project we proposed a stepped design along the deck.
“On the southern kerbline this will culminate in AquaDeck units 600mm wide and twin 300mm diameter outlets at the ends of the runs to ensure rapid and efficient surface water removal from the bridge.”
The system will have to cross large expansion joints at the abutment and Eccles will be working closely with Galliford Try and their chosen joint manufacturer in the coming months to ensure a smooth transition between the AquaDeck drainage system and the bridge movement joints.
